Incredibile ma vero! Con un fare diabolico sono riuscita, con abilità da ladra degna di May Frayn , a introfularmi nel magico palazzo in via Buonarroti a Milano! Entrando nel suo ufficio, ho avuto modo di fare una bella chiacchierata con il leader del mercato italiano del fumetto : SERGIO BONELLI !
Inizio con una piccola domanda trabocchetto.Lei è passato dai personaggi eterni alle miniserie, questo vuol dire che il mercato ha piegato anche la Sergio Bonelli Editore? “ Ti stupirò, ma non è così: sono gli autori a frenare, non io. La miniserie è meno rischiosa per me, certo, ma spesso la trovo un alibi: se hai tra le mani un personaggio “a tempo indeterminato”, che fai, ti risparmi? Io lavoro qui dal 1957, accetto le scommesse. Dicono che non sbaglio mai, la verità è che quando lo faccio nessuno dice niente: il mio mestiere è prendere dei rischi, e non addossarli a chi lavora per me. Però sono anche un pigro: quando azzecco il personaggio giusto, mi piacerebbe adagiarmi. Così invece lo stress è continuo, ma se l’autore non è convinto, posso mai spingere io sull’acceleratore? Questa prudenza, però, la capisco: in questo paese ci sono pochi editori mentre disegnatori e autori sono sempre più bravi, la società dell’immagine li cresce in fretta e sono molto capaci anche quelli che escono dalle scuole di fumetto. Non dobbiamo più girare il mondo per cercare artisti, li troviamo sulla nostra scrivania. E purtroppo spesso non possiamo penderli.”
Da Demian a Volto nascosto, questo modello ha rinvigorito il fumetto. “Volto nascosto lo amo molto: parla di guerre dimenticate e di serie B, di vicende coloniali ignorate dagli italiani, perché confuse e non belle da ricordare. Qui la Storia, con le sue date, impedisce di andare avanti all’infinito. Ma , per esempio, i francesi non sono andati avanti con Jean Gabin per anni? Forse anche il nostro marsigliese Demian poteva farlo. Lo speciale non è lo stesso, noi lettori di fumetti amiamo la delizia- stillicidio della periodicità precisa:persino la bimestralità ci fa soffrire. Io sono il primo lettore, non mi sento mai l’editore onnisciente. E tanti risultati felici, per fortuna, ci permettono di sopportare qualche flop. Odiamo l’”usa e getta”, preferiamo accettare i fallimenti.”
Spesso gli albi Bonelli sono molto strumentalizzati politicamente. Tex icona della destra, Dylan Dog e Nathan Never della sinistra. “Una cosa inevitabile: se ora sfogliamo tutti i Tex, a ogni pagina tu dirai destra e io sinistra, o viceversa. E un altro centro. E’ così da almeno 30 anni, noi facciamo storie, non politica: papà ( Gian Luigi Bonelli, co-creatore di Tex), se faceva un banchiere ladro, era perché gli serviva. Ricordo una storia di Tex in Canada in cui alcuni vedevano nei ribelli le Brigate Rosse, altri i poliziotti, spesso dipende da chi legge e non da chi scrive. E dalla ripetitività della Storia. Le guerre hanno la pessima abitudine di somigliarsi tutte, così come le dinamiche sociali e politiche. Ma detto tra noi, leggendo Nathan Never o le nostre serie, non ho mai scoperto per chi votano i nostri autori. Vero è che in tutti c’è un sentire comune pacifista.”
Vedo albi di tutti i tipi in ufficio. Leggete tutto, anche il fumetto indipendente? “Certo, noi andavamo alle ferie – senza compare nulla perché producevamo tutto qua – per curiosità, per fiutare l’aria. E ora compriamo tutto quello che esce, ci piace vedere cosa fanno gli altri anche per imparare eventualmente. Enoch, che ora scrive e disegna per noi, l’ho scoperto su Sprayliz, splendido. “
Il segreto del vostro successo? “Io sono riconoscente al destino che mi ha aiutato anche nei momenti difficili e a quel pubblico che ci ha voluto bene. Anche ora che sono un terzo o un quarto rispetto a prima, rimangono una buona trincea che non ci ha fatto subire il tracollo francese o spagnolo. Non è solo merito nostro, quindi, ma anche dei nostri lettori. E della nostra bottega che sa essere industria.”
E ora cosa ci aspetta? “Cosa farò da grande? (ride, è un coriaceo e vivace classe 1932 ). Io sono un editore che scommette come al casinò, senza però mettere in pericolo l’esistenza della casa editrice o la mia. Punto sui giovani e su chi lavora con me da tanto e proficuamente, magari gli do una seconda possibilità: e così dopo caravan, è arrivato Greystron di Antonio Serra, tra i creatori di Nathan Never e Legs Weaver, ma anche del fiasco Gregory Hunter, così come Ambrosini l’ha avuta con Jan Dix. Se avessi dovuto fare conti bene, il suo Napoleone … Ma mi piaceva e facevo finta di nulla. Poi ci sarà la seconda stagione di Volto nascosto, ai tempi della Rivolta dei Boxer in Cina, nel 1900. E Ruju farà 18 numeri di un’altra miniserie ambientata nell’America degli anni ’60 ‘ 70.”
Ha ragione chi dice che il fumetto non è più cultura di serie B? “Era meglio prima, quando nessuno parlava di noi, quando mia mamma un po’ si vergognava del nostro lavoro, si vendeva molto di più. Ora mi venite a intervistare, tutti parlano di noi, ma va peggio. Nessuno ci recensisce seriamente, al 90% veniamo ancora considerati … folkloristici. Lo sdoganamento, la rivalutazione è avvenuta con poca convinzione, e così lo snobbismo è rimasto. Ma almeno ora non ci accusano di istigare all’omicidio o di essere degli ignoranti!”. ESP

Se le immagini delle copertine sono le stesse proposte dalla serie nostrana, i titoli della varie collane sono differenti, a seconda dell’idioma: “Tex Willer Kirjasto” per i finlandesi, “Tex Willer Kronologisk i farger” per i norvegesi, “Kolor biblioteka Tex Willer” per i croati e “Tex em Cores” per i brasiliani..Le edizioni sono corredate da articoli e commenti firmati da Sergio Bonelli, gli stessi contenuti dei volumi italiani, tradotti nella lingua di ogni Paese. L’unica eccezione è rappresentata dall’edizione d’oltreoceano, i cui approfondimenti sono firmati da due brasiliani: uno “d’adozione” (l’editore Sergio Bonelli, appunto, nella sezione “Sergio Bonelli conta…”) e uno natio (chi firma anche questo articolo, il traduttore, redattore e consulente editoriale per la pubblicazione delle nostre testate in Brasile, Julio Schneider, nella sezione “Julio’s Tavern” .Comun denominatore tra le quattro iniziative è il programma iniziale di pubblicazione: sei volumi per ogni collezione. Negli ultimi anni, le edicole italiane, hanno subito l’ invasione di allegati di varia natura e tipo. Ogni Quotidiano, Settimanale, Mensile… non poteva negare ai propri lettori un gadget, qualunque esso fosse.Tra i vari allegati che hanno fatto capolino tra gli scaffali, anche fumetto fa tutt’ora, la sua parte: collane dedicate a singoli personaggi – Tex, Batman, Asterix, Alan Ford, Diabolik, Dago… ;collane dedicate ad autori – Manara, Crepax ; collane antologiche – SuperEroi DC, SuperEroi Marvel, I Classici del Fumetto, Antologie Disney, I Maestri del Fumetto… Qualunque sia stata l’iniziativa legata alle nuvole parlanti, pur essendone stata sempre curata al massimo la forma (volumi cartonati, colorazione di storie originariamente in bianco&nero…), si è trattato sempre di ristampe di storie più o meno classiche. Questo almeno fino ad oggi,(anche se in realtà, causa slittamento di pubblicazioni, venne presentato prima in edicola e poi in libreria il volome di Ghost Raider firmato da Garth Ennis,sempre per panini Comics, e sempre all’allegato alla gazzetta dello sport). A dicembre, infatti, e più precisamente il 14 dicembre, in allegato al Corriere della Sera e alla Gazzetta dello Sport, in collaborazione con Panini Comics, verrà pubblicato il 39° numero di “Super Eroi – Le Grandi Saghe” che conterrà una storia completa attualmente inedita in Italia: X-Campus. Pubblicata negli states in otto albetti, naturalmente formato comics, la saga è stata interamente realizzata da un team di autori 100% made in italy; i testi, infatti, sono stati scritti da Francesco Artibani e Michele Medda, mentre ai pennelli si sono alternati Denis Medri, Roberto Di Salvo, Alessandro Vitti, Gianluca Gugliotta e Marco Failla per le matite, Santa Zangari, Cristina Giorgilli e Marco Failla per le chine, Sergio Algozzino, Fabio Bonechi, Cecilia Giumento, Giovanna Niro e Davide Amici per la colorazione. La storia narra dell’adolescenza di un nutrito gruppo di mutanti che si ritrovano nel campus scolastico della Fondazione Warthington in cui, il Professor Xavier, sarà solo il loro insegnante di Biologia. All’allegra brigata, non manca di certo Magneto che riveste un inedito ruolo, tutto da scoprire.Quindi, adesso dovremmo aspettarci il riciclo di storie scartate dalla panini comics in edicola come allegati? La particolarità di queste vie, sorte in un nuovo quartiere, che ha iniziato ad essere abitato a partire dal 2007, è costituita dal fatto che sono intitolate a grandi autori che hanno fatto la storia del fumetto italiano: da Gianluigi Bonelli e Aurelio Galleppini (creatori di Tex) alle sorelle Giussani (autrici di Diabolik), da Benito Jacovitti (Cocco Bill, giusto per citare il suo personaggio più popolare) all’indimenticabile Hugo Pratt, papà di Corto Maltese, fino a tanti altri grandi dell’editoria a fumetti come Tea Bertasi Bonelli, Walter Molino, Franco Bonvicini, Guido Crepax, Roberto Raviola (in arte Magnus), Rino Albertarelli, Erio Nicolò e molti altri ai quali, col passare del tempo, sono state intitolate vie e piazze, ma anche viali, larghi, ponti e sottopassi. Il 20 novembre 2009, a testimonianza di un progetto ancora in crescita e di un’area urbanistica in evoluzione, che va man mano definendosi e acquistando un’identità via via più peculiare, quello che ormai è conosciuto come il “Quartiere dei Fumetti” si arricchisce di Piazza Andrea Pazienza. CARAVAN, la nuova miniserie ,dodici numeri,della Sergio Boneli Editore,che si discosta dal solito canone dell’eroe, in quanto non vi è un vero protagonista, ma vari personaggi che sono parte integrante della storia, un esperimento da valutare e da prendere come esempio.
Il mondo in cui si svolge la storia è quello di oggi, anche se Nest Point è una tranquilla cittadina americana che, nella realtà, non troverete sulle mappe stradali degli USA. è una località costiera il cui aspetto sulla pagina disegnata è un sapiente mix di luoghi realmente esistenti, rielaborati dall’immaginazione degli autori della serie. è proprio in questo posto che ha inizio l’avventura, un giorno qualunque che rimarrà per sempre scolpito nella memoria dei suoi abitanti. Un giorno in cui strane nuvole compaiono in cielo e, pochi istanti dopo, un black out oscura la città: niente corrente elettrica, i telefoni non funzionano, le macchine si bloccano improvvisamente. Cos’è successo? Un attentato? Un attacco da parte di una potenza nemica? Un’invasione dallo spazio?All’improvviso, così com’era cominciato, tutto ha termine. Telefoni e collegamenti Internet restano inattivi, però: Nest Point è tagliata fuori dal mondo! è l’alba quando arriva una colonna dell’esercito con l’ordine di evacuazione: tutta la popolazione dovrà lasciare le proprie abitazioni e allontanarsi con i propri mezzi. Le autorità militari pronunciano solo due parole: “sicurezza nazionale”, è questa l’unica “spiegazione” che viene fornita ai civili sulle motivazioni dell’intervento dell’esercito. Ventiquattr’ore più tardi un fiume di auto si riversa fuori dalla città e per la carovana di Nest Point ha inizio il lungo viaggio verso l’ignoto! La Famiglia Donati
Massimo Donati è un architetto italiano trapiantato negli USA. Ha scelto di vivere a Nest Point, una cittadina “a misura d’uomo” in cui ha cresciuto la sua famiglia. Sua moglie è Stephanie Burke, conosciuta in Italia, e i suoi figli sono Davide – un adolescente tranquillo e un po’ ingenuo – e la piccola Ellen, l’ultima arrivata. Completa la famiglia il cane Chip, un jack russell terrier coccolato da tutti. Carrie e Jolene Shawnessy
Carrie è una cantante folk rock celebre a cavallo tra gli anni ottanta e novanta. Da qualche anno ha diradato l’attività musicale e ha deciso di stabilirsi a Nest Point con sua figlia Jolene, ragazza dal carattere vivace che ha con lei un rapporto paritario. Jeff e Tracy Weinberg

I Bresler hanno con i Donati una rivalità “sportiva”, nel senso che Davide e Lance Bresler, coetanei, giocano a calcio in squadre diverse. Jake Bresler è un uomo dai modi ruvidi, che ignora sua moglie Connie, stravede per il piccolo Lance e ha qualche problema con il figlio maggiore Kurt: a differenza di Lance, che è semplicemente un presuntuoso, Kurt è un cattivo soggetto. Il contingente militare che presiede all’evacuazione di Nest Point è agli ordini di due alti ufficiali, il colonnello Warren e il tenente colonnello Johnson. Dei due è Warren a tenere in mano – con pugno di ferro – le redini dell’operazione. GLI AUTORI MICHELE MEDDA , ideatore della miniserie, è nato a Cagliari nel 1962, attualmente vive a Milano.Dopo la laurea in Lettere Moderne si dedica a tempo pieno alla scrittura. Nel 1986 comincia a collaborare con l’Editoriale Daim Press (la futura Sergio Bonelli Editore) insieme ad Antonio Serra e Bepi Vigna. Il trio scrive storie per Martin Mystére, Dylan Dog e Zona X, per poi creare, nel 1991, la serie Nathan Never, che sarà seguita, nel 1995, da Legs Weaver. Le avventure dell’ Agente Speciale Alfa vengono pubblicato in diversi paesi europei, negli Stati Uniti e in Brasile, e procurano agli autori vari riconoscimenti, tra cui il premio Yellow Kid nel 1997. Da solo, Medda firma anche sceneggiature per Tex, Dylan Dog e Nick Raider. Nel 2000 scrive la serie Digitus Dei (edita da Peter Press) per i disegni di Stefano Casini, e firma con Lucia Puxeddu i testi per la web strip “Cani & Pesci”, disegnata da Bruno Olivieri. Massimo Donati was an Italian architect transplanted to the USA. He chose to live at Nest Point, a town “on a human scale” in which he raised his family. His wife Stephanie Burke, known in Italy, and his sons are David – a teenager and some quiet ‘naive – and little Ellen, the last arrived. Complete the family dog Chip, a jack russell terrier cuddled by everyone.
Carrie and Jolene Shawnessy
Carrie is a famous folk rock singer at the turn of the eighties and nineties. For several years the business has sparsely music and decided to settle at Nest Point with his daughter, Jolene, lively girl character that has a relationship with her equally.

Both doctors at the hospital of Nest Point, have, for years the best friends of the Donati.

I have Bresler with Donati rivalry “sport” in the sense that David and Lance Bresler, peers, play football in different teams. Bresler Jake is a man by the ways harsh, ignoring his wife, Connie, stravede for small and Lance has a problem with the eldest son Kurt: Unlike Lance, who is simply a presumptuous, Kurt is a bad person.
The Officers
The military contingent who chairs the evacuation of Nest Point is the order of two senior officers, Colonel Warren and Lieutenant-Colonel Johnson. Warren of the two is to hold in your hand – with an iron fist – the reins of the operation.
THE AUTHORS
Michele Medda, creator of the miniseries, was born in Cagliari in 1962, currently lives in Milano.Dopo a degree in Modern Literature is dedicated full time to writing. In 1986 he began to work with the Editorial Press Daim (the future Sergio Bonelli Editore) along with Serra and Antonio Bepi Vigna. The trio wrote stories for Martin Mystere, Dylan Dog and Area X, and then established in 1991, the series Nathan Never, to be followed in 1995 by Legs Weaver. The adventures of ‘Special Agent Alfa are published in several European countries, the United States and Brazil, and the authors provide several awards, including the Yellow Kid Award in 1997. Alone, even Medda signing scripts for Tex, Dylan Dog and Nick Raider. In 2000, writes the series Digitus Dei (edited by Peter Press) for the drawings by Stefano Casini, and signing with Lucia Puxeddu texts for the web strip “Cats & Dogs”, designed by Bruno Olivieri. In 2004 it was the turn of the collaboration with the Walt Disney Italy, so albi wrote for the series “Kylion” and “Monster Allergy”. Incredibile ma vero! Con un fare diabolico sono riuscita, con abilità da ladra degna di May Frayn , a introfularmi nel magico palazzo in via Buonarroti a Milano! Entrando nel suo ufficio, ho avuto modo di fare una bella chiacchierata con il leader del mercato italiano del fumetto : SERGIO BONELLI !
È arrivato nelle librerie “Tratti & ritratti”, interessante volume, curato con competenza e passione dal critico Luca Raffaelli, che si propone come dizionario dei personaggi del fumetto. Il tomo, edito da minimum fax, ospita settantacinque ritratti dei più amati eroi di carta, “da Alan Ford a Zagor”, come evidenzia il sottotitolo, passando per Corto Maltese, Tex, Hulk, Asterix, così come da Tintin, Lupo Alberto, Dylan Dog, Diabolik e Mandrake. Un viaggio, sintetico ma ricco, tra i tanti protagonisti della “letteratura disegnata”. Un percorso in grado di restituire, attraverso le sue quasi quattrocento pagine illustrate, una visione d’insieme del pantheon fumettistico. I testi di Raffaelli (rielaborati e rivisti, partendo da quelli realizzati per la collana “I classici del fumetto di Repubblica” e la successiva “Serie Oro”, allegate al quotidiano tra il 2003 e il 2005) tendono a soffermarsi tanto sugli aspetti tecnici del disegno quanto su quelli letterari, legati alla sceneggiatura e ai dialoghi, con l’idea di portare il lettore alla scoperta dei segreti degli attori più celebri del palcoscenico fumettistico e dei loro rispettivi creatori. Un modo accattivante per invitare ad avvicinarsi al mondo delle nuvole parlanti anche chi non si è mai accostato a un fumetto, cercando di fargli comprendere, tra le righe, la ricchezza dei personaggi e l’ampiezza dei temi e delle sfumature narrative che si possono trovare nelle avventure degli eroi di carta. Negli ultimi anni, le edicole italiane, hanno subito l’ invasione di allegati di varia natura e tipo. Ogni Quotidiano, Settimanale, Mensile… non poteva negare ai propri lettori un gadget, qualunque esso fosse.Tra i vari allegati che hanno fatto capolino tra gli scaffali, anche fumetto fa tutt’ora, la sua parte: collane dedicate a singoli personaggi – Tex, Batman, Asterix, Alan Ford, Diabolik, Dago… ;collane dedicate ad autori – Manara, Crepax ; collane antologiche – SuperEroi DC, SuperEroi Marvel, I Classici del Fumetto, Antologie Disney, I Maestri del Fumetto… Qualunque sia stata l’iniziativa legata alle nuvole parlanti, pur essendone stata sempre curata al massimo la forma (volumi cartonati, colorazione di storie originariamente in bianco&nero…), si è trattato sempre di ristampe di storie più o meno classiche. Questo almeno fino ad oggi,(anche se in realtà, causa slittamento di pubblicazioni, venne presentato prima in edicola e poi in libreria il volome di Ghost Raider firmato da Garth Ennis,sempre per panini Comics, e sempre all’allegato alla gazzetta dello sport). A dicembre, infatti, e più precisamente il 14 dicembre, in allegato al Corriere della Sera e alla Gazzetta dello Sport, in collaborazione con Panini Comics, verrà pubblicato il 39° numero di “Super Eroi – Le Grandi Saghe” che conterrà una storia completa attualmente inedita in Italia: X-Campus.
