Il Gagoze come si può apprendere da “ L’Enciclopedia dei Mostri Giapponesi “ , ( pubblicata in Italia da Kappa Edizioni ) è il protagonista della più antica storia di mostri tramandata nel Sol Levante, derivata dalla narrazione di un evento capitato presso il Tempio di Gango. Il gagoze imperversava nel Periodo Muromachi (tra il XIV e il XV secolo) era una creatura terrificante, racchiusa nel corpo di una bestiale piccola creatura, che perfino i mostri e gli spiriti stessi temevano, poiché questi costituivano il suo alimento principale. Ahn Dongshik, talentuosissimo autore di origine coreana appassionato di mitologia e folklore nipponico realizza questo manga, ( manga : il nome dei fumetti giapponesi , che penso tutti conoscano ), pubblicato in partria dalla casa editrice Gentosha, singolare e appasionante che fornisce una versione inedita della figura dello yokai (manifestazione inquietante, spiriti, demoni).
