Il catalogo delle Edizioni BD presenta molte proposte fumettistiche interessanti, parecchie delle quali di provenienza britannica; e ogni amante dei comics anglofoni comprende l’importanza di autori leggendari come Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis, Neil Gaiman, Jamie Delano e così via. Sono stati, anzi, questi e vari altri cartoonists inglesi a svecchiare e a rinnovare il fumetto americano. Cosa sarebbe stata la narrativa disegnata a stelle e strisce senza Animal Man o Swamp Thing? O senza lo splendido Sandman?Ed è proprio l’autore delle stupende avventure del Dio dei Sogni Morfeo lo scrittore di Casi Violenti, graphic novel recentemente pubblicata dalle Edizioni BD. Scritta da un giovanissimo, e all’epoca sconosciuto, Neil Gaiman e impreziosita dai meravigliosi dipinti del bravissimo Dave McKean, fu il primo fumetto di una coppia che, nel giro di pochi mesi, avrebbe fatto parlare l’intero comicdom anglosassone. Infatti, leggendo Casi Violenti, Karen Berger, editor della DC Comics, offrì ai due la possibilità di lavorare per la casa editrice di Superman e Batman. Ne nacque la miniserie Black Orchid, opera sempre del duo Gaiman/McKean, e successivamente, quando Neil iniziò a scrivere Sandman, volle Dave come copertinista della serie. E McKean, dal canto suo, illustrò lo stupendo Arkham Asylum di Grant Morrison e il resto, come si suol dire, è storia.Casi Violenti, come ho scritto, è la prima opera realizzata dai due autori e, per quanto concerne i testi e la trama, già si intuiscono le potenzialità di Gaiman e si possono riscontrare le atmosfere poetiche, sognanti e impalpabili, di grande valenza suggestiva, che i fans dello sceneggiatore hanno imparato ad apprezzare. Gaiman racconta le vicende di un bambino che vive a Portsmouth, negli anni sessanta, e che assomiglia in maniera curiosa proprio a Neil. Durante un diverbio con il padre si fa male a un braccio e il genitore lo affida a un anziano osteopata.Questo vecchietto, però, è stato anche il fisioterapista di Al Capone, quando il celeberrimo gangster, nella Chicago degli anni venti, era all’apice del potere. Perciò la storia del pericolo pubblico numero uno e quella del bambino si intrecciano e Gaiman, con grande abilità, intesse un complesso e affascinante arazzo narrativo riguardante criminali, personaggi enigmatici nonché strani e inquietanti prestigiatori. I testi sono forse meno incisivi e poetici di quelli di Sandman ma bisogna considerare che si trattava della prima, autentica opera importante di un Neil Gaiman che ancora stava cercando di ‘prendere le misure’ con il medium fumettistico e, in definitiva, è un esperimento creativo pienamente riuscito.Ma a valorizzare Casi Violenti c’è soprattutto l’arte di Dave McKean con la sua miscellanea di stili, che vanno dall’iperrealismo all’espressionismo; inoltre, usando un efficace mix di acquarello, pennino e immagini fotografiche, McKean riesce a visualizzare egregiamente le differenti atmosfere della trama: la storia, infatti, è a tratti intimista e a tratti noir e richiedeva diverse impostazioni grafiche. Insomma, abbiamo a che fare con un’opera che, nel corso del tempo, si è rivelata un classico e che costituisce, inoltre, un tassello fondamentale per comprendere l’evoluzione di due autori ormai leggendari nel panorama fumettistico internazionale. Il volume, per giunta, è da segnalare per l’ottima cura editoriale.

Il capolavoro dell’abisso delle nostre menti, o semplicemente quello anelato dal soffio poliedrico del Premio Pulitzer Cormac McCarthy (Non è un Paese per vecchi). Dopo aver ritirato ben 4 premi Oscar con No Country for Old Men, Hollywood ha pensato bene di tornare a mettere il dito nella piaga dell’oblio inconscio, riesumando la paure dell’incontrollabile post crack finanziario, con un altro “romanzo adottivo” che di certo non mancherà di stupire il fruitore passivo per eccellenza . A fare da sfondo al film, atmosfere glaciali e un cast d’eccezione con Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smith McPhee, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce e Robert Duvall.La regia è firmata da John Hillcoat, le musiche sono di Nick Cave. Il film sarà distribuito nelle sale dalla Videa CDE a partire dal 28 maggio.

È passato ormai qualche mese dal clamoroso annuncio dato in occasione del San Diego Comic Con 2009, con il quale si ufficializzava l’acquisizione, da parte di Marvel, dei diritti di Marvelman, personaggio creato dallo sceneggiatore e disegnatore britannico Mick Anglo nel 1953 per la casa editrice Len Miller & Son. Il giovane Micky Moran, caratterizzato da un’anima pura, semplice e genuina, viene scelto come il depositario dell’immenso potere armonico dell’universo, racchiuso nella parola “kimota” che, pronunciata, aveva la forza di trasformarlo da adolescente nel più potente supereroe del mondo.Il personaggio deve tuttavia in massima parte la sua popolarità ad Alan Moore, che nel 1982 lo rilanciò dopo la chiusura della sua serie storica venti anni prima. Il pirata non ha mai abbandonato il mantello che gli volteggia intorno e continuerà a trascinarci verso l’ignoto con la solita spada – pistola. Capitan Harlock è un manga di fantascienza creato da Leiji Matsumoto nel 1976, dal quale è stata tratta una serie televisiva anime di 42 episodi, prima di una lunga serie di opere d’animazione ispirate allo stesso universo. È stata importata in Italia e trasmessa per la prima volta su Rai 2 nel 1979.

Il catalogo delle Edizioni BD presenta molte proposte fumettistiche interessanti, parecchie delle quali di provenienza britannica; e ogni amante dei comics anglofoni comprende l’importanza di autori leggendari come Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis, Neil Gaiman, Jamie Delano e così via. Sono stati, anzi, questi e vari altri cartoonists inglesi a svecchiare e a rinnovare il fumetto americano. Cosa sarebbe stata la narrativa disegnata a stelle e strisce senza Animal Man o Swamp Thing? O senza lo splendido Sandman?Ed è proprio l’autore delle stupende avventure del Dio dei Sogni Morfeo lo scrittore di Casi Violenti, graphic novel recentemente pubblicata dalle Edizioni BD. Scritta da un giovanissimo, e all’epoca sconosciuto, Neil Gaiman e impreziosita dai meravigliosi dipinti del bravissimo Dave McKean, fu il primo fumetto di una coppia che, nel giro di pochi mesi, avrebbe fatto parlare l’intero comicdom anglosassone. Infatti, leggendo Casi Violenti, Karen Berger, editor della DC Comics, offrì ai due la possibilità di lavorare per la casa editrice di Superman e Batman. Ne nacque la miniserie Black Orchid, opera sempre del duo Gaiman/McKean, e successivamente, quando Neil iniziò a scrivere Sandman, volle Dave come copertinista della serie. E McKean, dal canto suo, illustrò lo stupendo Arkham Asylum di Grant Morrison e il resto, come si suol dire, è storia.Casi Violenti, come ho scritto, è la prima opera realizzata dai due autori e, per quanto concerne i testi e la trama, già si intuiscono le potenzialità di Gaiman e si possono riscontrare le atmosfere poetiche, sognanti e impalpabili, di grande valenza suggestiva, che i fans dello sceneggiatore hanno imparato ad apprezzare. Gaiman racconta le vicende di un bambino che vive a Portsmouth, negli anni sessanta, e che assomiglia in maniera curiosa proprio a Neil. Durante un diverbio con il padre si fa male a un braccio e il genitore lo affida a un anziano osteopata.Questo vecchietto, però, è stato anche il fisioterapista di Al Capone, quando il celeberrimo gangster, nella Chicago degli anni venti, era all’apice del potere. Perciò la storia del pericolo pubblico numero uno e quella del bambino si intrecciano e Gaiman, con grande abilità, intesse un complesso e affascinante arazzo narrativo riguardante criminali, personaggi enigmatici nonché strani e inquietanti prestigiatori. I testi sono forse meno incisivi e poetici di quelli di Sandman ma bisogna considerare che si trattava della prima, autentica opera importante di un Neil Gaiman che ancora stava cercando di ‘prendere le misure’ con il medium fumettistico e, in definitiva, è un esperimento creativo pienamente riuscito.Ma a valorizzare Casi Violenti c’è soprattutto l’arte di Dave McKean con la sua miscellanea di stili, che vanno dall’iperrealismo all’espressionismo; inoltre, usando un efficace mix di acquarello, pennino e immagini fotografiche, McKean riesce a visualizzare egregiamente le differenti atmosfere della trama: la storia, infatti, è a tratti intimista e a tratti noir e richiedeva diverse impostazioni grafiche. Insomma, abbiamo a che fare con un’opera che, nel corso del tempo, si è rivelata un classico e che costituisce, inoltre, un tassello fondamentale per comprendere l’evoluzione di due autori ormai leggendari nel panorama fumettistico internazionale. Il volume, per giunta, è da segnalare per l’ottima cura editoriale.
