Il tablet, il piccolo lettore multimediale digitale che sia la Apple sia la Microsoft stanno mettendo a punto, è pronto a rivoluzionare il mercato dei fumetti, attualmente un po’ in difficoltà. In un lungo articolo del suo specialista informatico Andy Ihnatko, uno dei più autorevoli negli Stati Uniti, il Chicago Sun-Times scrive che la rivoluzione, simile a quella che ha permesso alla Apple di conquistare il mercato discografico online, scoppierà nei prossimi mesi. All’inizio dell’anno prossimo è atteso l’iTablet, il piccolo lettore multimediale della Apple, che secondo gli esperti americani del settore rivoluzionerà non solo il mercato dei libri e dei giornali, ma anche quello dei comics. Tutto è già pronto, scrive Ihnatko, perché una piccola ’startup’ informatica americana, la LongBox, ha messo a punto un programma molto semplice e a buon mercato, un sistema per ’scaricare’ con una connessione senza fili i fumetti su un piccolo lettore multimediale. Il numero uno della LongBox, Rantz Hoseley, ha già stretto accordi con le principali case editrici di fumetti, oltreché con una grande società di computer, che il Ceo non cita direttamente, ma che ha tutte le caratteristiche del colosso di Cupertino guidato da Steve Jobs. La distribuzione di fumetti online non è una novità assoluta, ma finora è stato un flop, visto che tutti gli editori si sono mossi in ordine sparso, proponendo spesso prodotti di archivio, e mai le novità. Un colosso come la Marvel dei Supereroi, senza dubbio il leader del mercato americano, ha lanciato un suo servizio online, con risultati mediocri: bisogna però essere collegati al web per acquistare i comics e i libri sono fruibili soltanto su un computer fisso, non sui portatili. Per i fumetti, com’é successo per la musica, è dilagata la pirateria. Andando sui blog specializzati è facilissimo infatti trovare tutte le novità, scaricarle e leggerle su un laptop. Il sistema della Longbox offre file protetti (com’era successo per la musica con i Drm, ora abbandonati dalla Apple), ma almeno tre fruitori potranno scaricarli sul proprio pc portatile, con effetti anche vicini al cinema di animazione.
